Then around 2004, the engine gave out. Charlie was so fond of the Chevy he just couldn't get rid of it. So into storage it went. Of course we have been on a few assignments since 2005 so the truck sat in an outdoor storage spot all these years. Charlie always hoped to one day get it up and running again.
Shortly after moving back to Peoria I told Charlie he either needed to get rid of the truck or fix it up because it wasn't doing any good just sitting there like a rusted out hunk of junk. He decided to keep it and fix it up. A childhood friend of mine, that is a mechanic, put in a new engine. Then one of Charlies good friends, who owns an auto body shop in Chicago, worked on the body and frame. It was a long process, and almost 2 years since the start of repairs but Charlies truck is back. It's about time! There are still few items to be worked on, like a wench, a new radio, and the a/c... but it works! And I have to admit...a truck will come in handy.
