Back Home...

Well Charlie got back safely and lets just say he is a little bit jet lagged! That didn't keep him from spoiling the kids over the weekend with a lot of wrestling and running around the house craziness. You know the stuff that daddy's are so good at doing! The kids loved having him home and Zofia surprised him by saying..."Da Da". Her official first word!

Since Charlie didn't have a good connection while in Kupol I wanted to share some updated pictures of the mine site:

The Charter Plane from Magadan to site. Check out the engines...looks like there upside down!
The 45 minute drive from the airstrip to Kupol mine. You definitely don't want the car to break down at this point

The lovely accommodations. As cold as it looks Charlie said they kept it nice and toasty inside.

A quick peak of the frozen equipment. With windchills dropping as low as -80 Charlie could not be outside for more than 5 minutes without feeling like his fingers were going to fall off. He said he got a "brain freeze", like the one you get from drinking a cold beverage to quickly, but instead from just breathing in the cold air. There were passages and tunnels throughout the camp so people did not have to go outside!

Charlie was able to see a gold pour as well. The security was very high but one of the managers was able to get the guys in. Each step in the picture below makes a bar. The bars are actually a gold/silver mix. They are later shipped off to a refinery that re-melts the bars and separates the gold from silver.

Charlie holding $65,000. I wouldn't have minded that for a souvenir!

I'm sure you're all glad to have him back home. Very interesting to see the pictures of the mine. -80?? It makes Canada look like a tropical destination! :)
