We have had a week of patriotic festivities. On Wednesday it was Canada day! And since we have a Canadian in the family we started off the festivities with the Parade held downtown. It wasn't Mardi Gras or anything but it was fun to take Aniela and Charles to their first parade. Aniela enjoyed the goodie bags and candy they passed out. When the parade was over we asked Aniela what she thought and she said she was disappointed that there weren't any elephants!
After lunch we headed to Gregoire Lake Provincial Park. Charlie hadn't kayaked in a while and thought it would be fun to take it out on the lake. It was the same lake that I swam in for the triathlon and we were so impressed with the park area we figured we would return to check it out as a family. When we drove down we decided to go to the actual Campground on Gregoire Lake, since we hadn't seen it yet. When we arrived, our mouths dropped. We can't believe in the 2 years we've lived here we are just now discovering the place. The campground had nice private, wooded lots. There was an amazing playground area, with picnic benches, grills, and even a beach with swimming. Needless to say we are definitely going to come back for some camping later in the summer, especially since it's just a 30 minute drive from our house. At the beach area Charlie and Aniela pushed off into the water. She was so excited to go Kayaking and fit perfectly in the little dry storage cubby behind where Charlie sat. While Charlie and Aniela went Kayaking and fishing on the lake Charles and I walked along the beach and then took out the blanket to stretch our legs and soak in some sun. We had such great day!

Then on the 4th the celebrations continued with a BBQ. Our friends and fellow expats Kelly, Harold, their little girl Sudie, and Val came over. Aniela and Sudie are good friends and enjoyed eachothers company while us adults relaxed with some beer and burgers! It was a beautiful day and the rain actually stayed away! Of course I have no pictures of the festivities, guess I was to busy hosting. Then among all these festivities Aniela started her summer swim classes this weekend. She hasn't been since before Charles was born and is now old enough to go on her own. She did great for being the youngest in her class and I know her swimming skills will improve so much by the end.

Ah ... baby fists full of sand ... add a few sandy shrimp and young Charles looks just like his daddy did ... so many moons ago, when his first real food was sandy shrimp on the beach in Florida.
And Aniela is a really bathing beauty! I wanna see her swim and kayak next week!
Is Aniela riding in the storage compartment of the kayak!? That is too funny!!
What a beautiful lake. Hopefully you'll have some more warm weather so you can head back and enjoy it.
