4th of July Festivities and Weekend...

We had a busy and festive 4th of July! It started out at Granny and Grandpa's with their annual neighborhood Bike and Trike parade. The kids dressed up the bikes, themselves and had fun parading around, eating hotdogs and cooling off by the fire hydrant the fireman hooked up. This was the third year we've attended and it's become quite the tradition.

Following that parade we had our first annual Bike and trike Parade in our own neighborhood. It worked out since our bikes were already decorated. Aniela and Charles had fun with their neighborhood friends and Zoe had fun taking a much needed nap.

After dinner we decided to go downtown for the fireworks. There's just something to feeling the boom and sound of fireworks that adds to the excitement and wonder of them. Charlie also had a parking spot ready to go since he pays for one at work. When we got downtown there was plenty of room to set up our chairs and enjoy the atmosphere and some treats at the vendors. The funnel cakes were a hit...yum!

Then on Friday we headed up to Sterling, Il with the Riley's for some boating fun. Charlie's sister and brother-in-law had bought a boat last year and we were excited to try it out for the first time.  Charlie and his sister, Susanna, were pros at slalom skiing and I actually got up on two skis myself, although it wasn't a pretty site! The kids had fun tubing and even water ski'd with the help of the easy ski, an inflatable ski with rope. We had so much fun soaking up the sun and enjoying a day out on the river.
