Charlie made it back on Tuesday and boy was he happy to be back! Unfortunately when you work and are a daddy there's no rest from a long trip when returning on a weekday. It was an interesting trip all around with not too many pictures. Charlie said when you take them the local people start yelling at you and he didn't attempt to take any at the airport in fear of getting arrested....no joke!
Heading out of Lubumbashi
It's a good 4 hour car ride on dirt roads
Rough enough that the car broke down. Below is the driver trying to fix it. Perfect opportunity for a rest stop too. Hey when there are no bathroom stops along the way then the nearest tree is your only option!
It's the rainy season in the Congo so the roads were really washed out.
At the mine site this is where Charlie stayed. He said it wasn't one of the nicest camps he has stayed at.
In fact it was pretty dirty! Here is a friend he found in his bed. I don't know how he slept at night?
Some things Charlie found interesting at this particular site. Notice what they used to strap down this big CAT truck onto the trailer....just a few pieces of wood on either side of the tires. Ummm...can we say accident just waiting to happen! Not only that but how the heck are they transporting that thing with those road conditions?
Needless to say we are all thrilled that Charlie is back and hope the next trip isn't so long!
