Backyard Campout...

In our household you don't have to go very far for a camping experience. In fact the backyard will do just fine. One just needs a tent, sleeping bags, fire pit, hotdogs, marshmallows and a 3 year old to make it feel like the most exciting thing since Christmas. Or at least that's what Aniela said when we were making s'mores, "this is just like Christmas." You could just see the joy emitting from her! As parents it was so fun to watch.

This all came about since Charlie's recent camping trip in Idaho. We told Aniela that daddy was going to pick up a new tent on the way so when he got back we could all go camping together. Well she hasn't stopped talking about it yet, and since our summer outing isn't until July Charlie decided to take Aniela camping in the backyard. It was the first time I have heard her say, "I'm really tired mommy and really sleepy. We better go to bed." She couldn't wait to get in there and sleep.

The evening was so fun and it's nice to get out of the house, away from the t.v. and enjoying the fresh air. We started a fire, roasted hotdogs, made Charlies special pie-iron dessert of Nutella and marshmallows melted between 2 pieces of buttery bread, and played in the backyard all evening. Then Aniela and Charlie changed into some warm p.j.'s and we went in the tent for a few rounds of board games before it was time for bed. I slept in the house with Charles and made sure there were pancakes and hot coffee ready in the morning...gotta love the conveniences of home being only a few feet away! Charlie said Aniela did great all night and loved the experience. I just hope we can get her to sleep in her room after such an exciting night!

Charles enjoyed the fire too
A thumbs up for daddy's dessert

Practice makes perfect. Only 5 more weeks until the real thing ... with grizzly bears and cougars (maybe she should sleep in the trailer with Granny and Grandpa)

We leave Friday ... Can't wait!

love and kisses

hmmm... the pie-iron dessert sounds delish. We'll have to have Charlie make on our fire pit next time you're in town. This sounds like mine kind of "camping" - enjoy the outdoors, relax by the fire, but still have indoor plumbing close by! I'll bet it was hard to sleep since it stays light so long. We forgot what that was like and are still getting used to it.
